As a new and dynamic department Government & Politics seeks to promote a greater understanding of the systems and institutions that govern the UK. The department is diverse in its methods from the most new and innovative to traditional tried and tested styles of teaching and learning. With annual trips to the Houses of Parliament and a proposed 8 day tour of New York and Washington in February 2005, the department hopes to to encourage and promote an understanding of important political discourse and activity.
In AS Government & Politics

Year 12
In this year you will study 3 AS units which are wholly assessed by examination at the end of the Lower Sixth year.
Unit One - People and Politics
In this unit you look at the ways that people in the UK can get involved in the political process by studying the following:
Political participation and democracy
Elections and referendums
Political Parties
Pressure Groups
Unit Two - The Uk System
In this unit you look at the governmental system of the UK and where power lies within. You do this by studying the following:
The UK Constitution
Parliament
The Executive
The Judiciary
Unit Three - The Changing UK System
In this unit you look at how government and politics in the UK has changed in recent years and consider the impact that this has had. You will study the following:
Electoral Reform
Parliamentary Reform
Constitutional Reform
Devolution
Europe
