Art
All students are taught Art and Design at KS3. Students have one 50 minute lesson a week. They will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of media on a variety of themes. The course is structured to enable to development of skills and knowledge to prepare students for GCSE and A Level. Students are continually stimulated by Art displays both in the classroom and around the school.
Students at GCSE are taught three times a week and are currently entered for the GCSE "unendorsed" with Edexcel. At A level students receive six lessons a week and are also on the "unendorsed" syllabus with Edexcel.
The courses for all years are structured to encourage students to show a personal response in their own Artwork. In order to achieve this students work from direct experience to enhance their awareness of their immediate environment both inside and outside the school. We endeavor to develop students experience and understanding of colour, form, structure, space, line, shape, tone, texture, pattern and volume. We work to widen student knowledge of Art and Design by increasing their knowledge of a wide range of Art movements and Artists.
We are a successful department with good exam results and create a stimulating environment where students are able to develop their artistic skill in a supportive environment.
