International Evening

Latin American Evening at Our Lady's

It was a cold night (Friday 21st November 2003) that threatened to rain, but inside Our Lady's the heat and Salsa of Latin America was recreated when Mrs Dixon introduced 'Caramba'. The groups' two dancers moved elegantly across the stage as the audience cheered with appreciation.

Dancers representing St. Lucia and Columbia entertained us with their lively interpretations. From the powerful rhythmic beat of North America Medley to the quite lilting tune of the Irish, music had never seemed so appealing before.

Interval time was almost an intrusion into this colourful world of song and dance but the 'Caramba' group opened the second half with as much exuberance as anything we had already seen.

Female domination in the dancing area was suddenly shattered by the appearance of two male Salsa dancers. Our Lady's girls duly showed their appreciation and I marvelled at what can be accomplished with hard work and dedication.

A wide and varied music culture was on offer that night, from the 'Bashment Medley', the 'Mauritian Dnace', the 'Afro Caribbean Group', the Calypso Group', to the haunting solo of the pianist.

I left Our Lady's that night with a proud feeling. Proud that I was part of something so rich and cultural and looking forward to the next one.
